Baroque style furniture was started in Italy and lasted from 17th century to the 18th century. Baroque furniture is characterized by elaborate art and use of ornamentation. The purpose is to elicit emotion from the viewer. It was first used by the Church and the art was meant to be understood by the masses. Later, the monarchies used this style to show their wealth and power.
